About This Item
Frontispiece engraving by G. Van de Gucht and title-page in red and black A translation of 'Voyages et avantures de Jacques Masse', not by Pierre Bayle but by Simon Tyssot de Patot. This is an early fictional account of a voyage to an unknown land beyond Cape of Good Hope. The Journey to this unknown land (Australia) is very carefully authenticated and contains discussions of science and religion which are artistically inserted into the adventures. (Atkinson)
