Second Edition, Enlarged. 11 5/8" x 8 7/8". [iii]. xxxv, [596], [593] - 632; addenda and corrigenda sheet and advertisement sheet bound in before index; engraved frontispiece by J Neagle after L Mayer; 3 folding maps, each with short tear at first fold, plan of the Residency of the Sultan of Fur, all bound in before main text. Tear in margins of page 209/210, not affecting text, pages 301-304 have been sharply folded, resulting in a partial tear along each fold; tear on lower edge of page 457/458. Pages uncut, some also unopened along upper edge. Pencil note on title page claims that author was 'ancestor of Tallentire Brownes'; on front endpaper is an early ink note 'For the particulars of this remarkable man see my Family Record Book'; signed H.M.Shore(?). Endpapers and early leaves darkened, boards well rubbed; green cloth spine fraying at upper and lower edges; remains of original label with almost similarly aged typed slip giving author's name. Generally a good period copy..
