Dark green covers with blindstamped designs and gilt seals on front covers, and gilt lettering and artwork on spines. Corners are bumped and worn, and bottom corners are frayed. Vol. 1 has wear along bottom edges of covers. Covers have some scuffing. Bookplates from High School of Glasgow are attached to inside front covers. Verso of front endpaper of Vol. 1 has multiple notations in pencil. Some pages have spotting or foxing. Inside back covers have bookstore stickers at bottom. All maps are present. Some of lithographic plates are tinted. Books are in good condition. Large 8vo, 876 pages, 4.1 lb.; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 876 pages .
