8vo, bound in later boards, paper spine label, printed in two columns, 112 + [158 blank] pp. Volume has been rebound and is missing orginal wrappers, mild wear to spine, slight fading, foxing; otherwise very good. Early account of the westward migration to Oregon. "Farnham was the leader of
the 'Peoria Party.' leaving [in]
1839, the party followed the Santa Fe Trail in Bent's Fort
where they divided. Farnham
traveled up the Arkansas, over the divide to the North Platte River, and ...continued to Oregon..." Wagner-Camp, which also quotes Streeter quoting Herschel Jones: "This is the first and most interesting of the several books on the West...the best account of the first overland-to-Oregon migration of settlers."
