London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1848. First Edition . Full Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 495 & 536 pages respectively. Folding map in Volume I. Later binding in polished red leather with raised spine bands, gilt decoration and lettering, and spine labels. Marbled end leaves and edges. Interesting presentation inscription to Arthur John Butler (English scholar and mountaineer) from his friend Cecil Egerton Green, upon the occasion of Butler's leaving Eton College in 1863. Covers show light general edge wear. Spine covers are darkened and show a few scuffs. Light scattered foxing.
