A detailed explanatory text of Quaker principles and beliefs, published for purposes of making Barclay’s 17th century Apologia more accessible to 19th century Friends, and to provide accurate information about Quakerism to outsiders. Sixteen chapters covering Quaker doctrines, ministry, worship, communion, baptism, oaths, war, etc., plus a concluding nine-page address to the reader. Authored by notable preacher Jesse Kersey (1768-1845) who, despite severe personal trials, remained loyal to Quakerism and was among the leaders of the Hicksite Separation of 1827. Printed by William Fry. Very Good, short (7/8") surface split of the leather at the upper spine shoulders, heavy foxing, paper supple, not brittle, binding tight, sound and square, hinges solid.
