This is a first edition (Book Club) of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and Maggie-Now, two novels by the American author Betty Smith (1896-1972).
The book is undated but Maggie-Now was published in 1958. The publisher likely took the opportunity to reprint the former while releasing the latter.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was written in 1945 and was a massive best-seller--it has been filmed and staged several times. It is about a young girl's push through a disadvantaged Brooklyn childhood. Maggie-Now is about an Irish woman making her way through adulthood. Both are based on Smith's own life.
733 pages, including a smattering of illustrations by the American artist Richard Bergere.
This book has not been read and is in mint condition. The dust jacket is in excellent shape, although the spine is faded. The book itself is perfect.

Some tears are mended, including large tear on front of jacket's panel. Stories of two women growing up in Williamburg (Brooklyn) during the early 1900's. Stories of grit, compassion, love, and the trials and tribulations of relationship during times of hardship.
