Bentley's novel to feature the amateur detective Philip Trent. The novel is noted for the fact it is a whodunit that rests firmly in the detective fiction genre. Many critics regard this novel to be the first of its kind, receiving much praised by noted authors, including Agatha Christie and G. K. Chesterton. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Spine is a little discoloured. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good
