1981. Painting. Illus. by Trevor Boyer. Near Fine. Framed. Signed by THE ARTIST. Original. 430mm x 320mm. Original watercolour illustration of a New Guinea Eagle by Trevor Boyer painted for Eagle Star Insurance, and published in "Vanishing Eagles" by Philip Burton on page 61. The image measures approximately 430mm x 320mm (Portrait) with a very good mount with ruled lines. Attractively framed in solid wood, approximately 650mm x 545mm, the frame is near fine with a few light marks. The work is in fine condition, signed by T. Boyer to the lower right corner, colours are vibrant, sharp with exacting clarity. We are also offering other original eagles paintings from this series. The plates for "Vanishing Eagles" were used extensively for advertising by Eagle Star and regularly appeared in the colour supplements of all the major newspapers as well the RSPB Birds magazine, as part of an advertising campaign. They were also issued as posters and for a calendar. With such extensive exposure they took on an iconic status. [Trevor Boyer 1948 - Trevor Boyer was born in Castleford in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He attended the Wakefield School of Art from the age of 14 and then worked as a commercial artist in Leeds for 9 years. In 1976 Boyer became a freelance artist and has specialized in birds ever since. He has contributed to many publications , including The Illustrated Gide to Britain's Coast, Owls of the World, Ducks of the World The Reader's Digest Nature Lovers' Library 'Birds of Britain', 1981, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Automobile Association's Complete Book of British Birds, 1988. The comprehensive work Vanishing Eagles by Philip Burton, produced in association with Eagle Star Insurance who commissioned Trevor Boyer to produce the illustrations as posters. He has exhibited at the Leeds City Museum and the Society of Wildlife Artists, Mall Galleries, London, also in Europe and America. His work has been auctioned at Christie's among others and always commands attention.] .
