Scarce 1925 second (revised) edition. Edited by William Roughead. Published by William Hodge & Co., Edinburgh and London (Notable British Trials Series). Red cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Pressed line borders on covers and pressed design to center of front cover. xi,402pp. Very good condition. 9 full-page listed illustrations of black and white photos, and a large foldout plan of the crime scene of at the end. An examination of a sensational British trial. In 1862 the "";Sandyford murder case""; was all the rage. Mrs. McLachlan found the body, always maintained her innocence, but was tried and found guilty of savagely murdering her good friend Jessie M'Pherson with a knife. Sentenced to be hanged, a commission review later sentenced her to life in prison. She was released in 1877 and moved to America.
