About This Item
Bound in Pictorial Green cloth, small library mark to the lower spine, and a bookplate presenting this book to the officers of the National Fire Service. A nice clean copy.
Woodruff, born in 1817, started riding professionally at the age of 13. He was best known for his rides on Dexter, a champion trotter in the mid nineteenth century. He was a rider, trainer, breeder and owner. Woodruff is considered to be the first representative figure of Standardbred training tradition. Edited (i.e., ghost-written) by Charles J. Foster and published after Woodruff's death. Memoirs of the famous trainer of Lady Suffolk and many other great harness horses; also, the first American work on training trotters. This "new edition" adds a long appendix, updating the original and adding many time records.
