Large octavo, xvi, 421 pages plus 25 plates and a colour frontispiece portrait. Cloth slightly bumped; edges a little marked; a very good copy with the dustwrapper torn, creased and chipped with minor loss. Sir Earle Page (1880-1961) was the eleventh Prime Minister of Australia, for just a mere nineteen days after the death in office of Prime Minister Joseph Lyons in April 1939. Provenance: Hon Dr John Bannon AO (1943-2015), Premier of South Australia from 1982 to 1992, and Leader of the South Australian Labor Party from 1979 to 1992. His personal bookplate (based on an early map of the city of Adelaide) is mounted on the front pastedown, with his signature written in blue ink above it.
