London: Heinemann, 1960. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5. None. A novel by aeronautical engineer Nevil Shute Norway. The first edition. 'Trustee From the Toolroom' was published posthumously following Shute's death earlier the same year. The plot follows the actions of a modest technical journalist Keith Stewart. Stewart designs and engineers scale-model machinery and writes about it in a magazine. Stewart is plunged into extraordinary circumstances and becomes the trustee of his ten year old niece which then leads him to travel to French Polynesia to find some sunken diamonds. In original cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Bumping to the extremities. Dustwrapper is very smart with bumping to the head and tail of spine and to the extremities. Small chips to the head and tail of spine. Age Wrap is sunned to the spine and several spots to the rear wrap. Slight browning to the internals at the edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Near Fine
Synopsis
NEVIL SHUTE NORWAY was born on January 17, 1899 in Ealing, London. After attending the Dragon School and Shrewsbury School, he studied Engineering Science at Balliol College, Oxford. He worked as an aeronautical engineer and published his first novel, Marazan , in 1926. In 1931 he married Frances Mary Heaton and they went on to have two daughters. During the Second World War he joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve where he worked on developing secret weapons. After the war he continued to write and settled in Australia where he lived until his death on January 12, 1960. His most celebrated novels include Pied Piper (1942), No Highway (1948), A Town Like Alice (1950) and On the Beach (1957).
