" In 1941, when Germany and its allies, among them Romania, attacked the Soviet Union, A. Prokich, as a graduate veterinarian, was mobilized into the Romanian Army and sent to the fron to tfight for a "New Europe, German-style." Not wanting to fight against the Russians, a slavic people like themselves, many Serbians deserted the Romanian Army and joined the Red Army. The author spent four years of World War II as an officer of the Soviet Army. after the war, he taught scholl in the Soviet Union for two years. Then he escaped and travelled on foot for 18 months through various countries (Romania, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, and ended in Germany).
