Book is in very good condition with minor signs of wear and/or age. BUT soud covers are dust marked. Book is in good double plus condition with noticeable signs of wear and/or age. . Hardback. Upper edge gilt. 115pp with 12 pages of tissue guarded plates of castles, cathedrals etc found along the railway. The descriptions cover the historical sites, with the history etc., as well as the scenery. Ex reference library with pictorial bookplate on rear pastedown and handwritten number on reverse of title page. No other obvious library markings.

A charming consisting of twelve detailed sketches of the impressive architectural sites to be found along the course of the Scottish Railway. The first edition of this work, with twelve plates, each retaining the original tissue guard. Collated, complete.The preface notes that these twelve engravings were prepared by W. Ferguson of Kinmundy to illustrated the 1881 'Guide to the Great North of Scotland Railway', but were too costly to produce to be used in that volume. Eight of the plates depict castles, while further plates display cathedrals, King's College of Aberdeen, and Bishop's Palace, Spyne.These charming plates are supplemented with descriptive and historical notes from George Reid, some of which are taken from the aforementioned guide, but the majority of which are original.With a contemporary clipping advertising this work to the front pastedown.
