About This Item
Boston: The Cornhill Company, 1918. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Boston: The Cornhill Company, 1918. 12mo. 143 pp. Red boards with gilt lettering to the spine and front board. Very good or better with light foxing to the endpapers and some rubbed spots to the rear board. Tight and square. William J. Edwards (1869-1950) was the founder of Snow Hill Institute and served as its principal from 1893 until 1924. Twenty-Five-Years in the Black Belt is a memoir, written when the school was 25 years old. It not only provided a fascinating portrait of the conditions of black people and the state of race relations in Alabama at the time, but also tells of one's person's determination to uplift his race, particularly through education. Scarce.
