London: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1903. viii, 327pp, [1]. With a half-title and a frontispiece. Original publisher's blue cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt. Rubbed, a trifle marked, spine sunned, corners bumped. Later inked ownership inscription of Sylvia Bruce to recto of FFEP, very occasional light spotting. Presentation copy, inked inscription to half-title: 'Harry Quilter, Esq. / with R. Garnett's / best regards / May 15, 1903.' Originally published in 1888 with only 16 tales, this 'new and augmented' edition adds 12 further fantastic stories to librarian and author Richard Garnett's (1835-1906) perennially popular collection. T. E. Lawrence praised the work stating in a later introduction commissioned especially, stating; 'It wants no learning to enjoy the Twilight of the Gods; but the more learning you have, the more odd corners and hidden delights you will find in it.' The present copy is inscribed by the author to art critic Harry Quilter (1851-1907). . [New and augmented edition]. 8vo.
