Chicago, 1903. unbound. very good. Both letters are written to patron of the arts J.B. Oliver, a longtime supporter of Taft at the turn of the 19th century. The first letter: 1 page, 6.75 x 5.25 inches, Chicago, May 14, 1903, in full: "If you should have time to give me a short sitting next Wednesday I believe it would come in opportunely at this time and save your father the trip; then we could resume with him the following week. If you should be too busy however, I shall be glad to have him come." Fine condition. The second letter: 1 page, 6.75 x 5.25 inches, 1038 Fine Arts Building, Chicago, March 20, 1908, in full: "I think there must be a mistake regarding price of the reproduction of the bust since they cost me more than the sum named. My usual charge is $300.00 which gives me a little profit. I am willing however to split the difference in this case and call it $250.00." Show-through discoloration down the center of the letter from being placed against a newspaper article; several pinholes and in good condition.<br/> <br/> Iconic American sculptor best remembered for his lavish designs and execution of elaborate fountains.<br/> <br/>
