Octavo. xi, 300pp. Engraved frontispiece with tissue guard (Coming Down From The Monasteries of Meteora), Photo portrait of the author, 21 further engravings from sketches made by Isabel Armstrong within the text. Original pictorial green cloth, gilt lettering. Pages untrimmed, edges darkened. Cloth worn, spine cocked, darkened and faded, corners bumped. Text bright and clean. Spotting to prelims and half title, foxing to the tissue guard, with a little transference to the title page. No inscriptions. Scarce.
Isabel Armstrong (b.1848) and her travelling companion Edith Payne "announcing our intention of starting off by ourselves to Greece, the general opinion seemed to be that if we were going out to be murdered ..."
