With cordial regards, I am..." *On June 5th 1941 Hughes announced to several friends that he would be stepping down as Chief Justice at the end of the month. Coudert has responded accordingly. Albany, 1908. unbound. 1 page on "State of New York Executive Chamber" letterhead, 9.75 x 7 inches, Albany, February 12, 1908. In this letter, Hughes responds to a recommendation, in full: "I have received your letter recommending the appointment of Hon. Hugh Gordon Miller to the City Court bench. I shall give the matter careful consideration." One horizontal fold; very good condition.<br/> <br/> American statesman, Governor of New York, and later Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.<br/> <br/>
