About This Item
This career Army officer was a major general with The Adjutant General's Office. TLS, 1p, 8" X 10½", Washington, DC, 1948 April 2. Addressed to Mrs. Otto (Elaine) Madlener (noted Chicago collector and officer of The Manuscript Society). Very good. Lightly age toned, with touch of edgewear. On letterhead of "The Adjutant General's Office," Witsell responds to a request for "a list of all three, four and five star generals and admirals who served during World War II.... there are no such compiled lists available. However, I am enclosing in lieu thereof a list of all officers who served in the grades of General of the Armies, General of the Army, General and Lieutenant General from the period of the Revolutionary War to the present time...."
