About This Item

London: Heinemann, 1903. First UK edition. One of only 1,500 copies (per Wise) of the first issue with windmill device on title page and without "Reserved for Colonies only" notice on half-title verso. Adds three stories not in the U.S. edition -- "Amy Foster," "Falk," and "To-Morrow" -- and incorporates Conrad's final revisions to the title story, "Typhoon," not found in the U.S. edition. Cagle's binding "b" ("a" is presumed to be a trial binding) with only the top edge trimmed and with 110 mm between "Conrad" and "Heinemann" on spine. 8vo gilt-stamped, slate-gray cloth boards; 304 pages; this copy with 32-page publisher's catalog inserted at rear (noted both with and without). Very good with endpapers lightly foxed, minor wear to spine ends and corners, and subtle bubbling to spine cloth. NO COMPARABLE U.S. EDITION
