Volume one (forste deel) in original marbled boards and leather corners/spine; volume two (andet deel) rebound in black cloth with thin black leather corners/spine; volume three (tredie deel) in original marbled boards and leather corners/spine. All three with gilt-stamped spine titles. Volume one with 1873 to the title page and no additional printings; volume two with 1877 to the title page and no additional printings; volume three with 1887 to the title page and no additional printings. Volumes I and II carry the signature of Rasmus B. Anderson, the preeminent 19th century Norwegian-American professor of Scandinavian Literature (University of Wisconsin - Madison). All three volumes were donated to the State Historical Society of Madison in 1930; later they were sold to Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad, a student in Madison in the 1940s. All show edgewear and rubbing, but volume three also has a chip from the heel of the spine (the piece is laid in) and cracking along the external joints. The volumes are clean and tight, the texts unmarked. An uncommon set with excellent association value. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
