A complete run of the Scandinavian avant-garde art and literature journal, housed together in continuously paginated 128 pp. volume, (each issue approx. 16 pp.), published in both Finnish and Swedish, under the editorial direction of Lauri Haarla, Haggar Olsson, and Raoul af Hällström, containing essays on literature, music, theater, and art, poetry, and other prose. Scattered illustrations. Some very light scattered browning to pages. 8vo. Cloth-backed boards, original wrpps. not present. Helsinki (Daimon) 1922. Ultra is one of the most important avant-garde journals to have been published in Scandinavia. In the first issue, the editors wrote that in publishing Ultra, their goal was to create a forum for "aesthetic debate in order to liberate art", and to help move Scandinavia forward with a wave of fundamentally new art in the spheres of painting, music, theater, and dance. Contributors to Ultra include writers, poets, and critics Eino Palola, Elmer Diktonius, Edith Södergran, Ormi Arp, Gunnar Björling, Rabbe Enckell, Uuno Kailas, Viljo Kojo, and Katri Vala, and artist Uuno Eskola. Scarce in United States institutions.
