Chatto & Windus. Good with no dust jacket. 1913. New edition. Hardcover. Clean hardback tightly bound in green cloth with gilt titles and decoration, top edge gilt, deckled at other edges, cloth has minor rubbing at corners, no inscriptions, foxing throughout. 272 pages, 10 colour illustrations by Keith Henderson on plates, frontispiece is tissue-guarded. A nice copy of the first printing of this new edition of Hardy's second novel, which was originally published in 1872 .
Synopsis
Under the Greenwood Tree or The Mellstock Quire: A Rural Painting of the Dutch School is a novel by Thomas Hardy, published anonymously in 1872. It was Hardy's second published novel, the last to be printed without his name, and the first of his great series of Wessex novels.
