Viking Press, 1981. 1st US Edition. Hardcover. NF/NF. 1st US Edition. 20 x 28.6 cm Red cloth with gilt stamped titles to the spine green endpapers 24 animal poems with 12 striking images by Leonard Baskin. Signed, inscribed and dated by Hughes on the front free endpaper to the family of fellow writer John Moat (1936 -2014); 'For Antoinette and John/ and Elspeth and Ben/with love/from Ted/ August 1981. With original dust jacket priced at $14.95 price. A near fine book noting only a small ding on the bottom edge of the rear board, with a clear inscription from the author on the front free endpaper. In a near fine jacket with a hint of creasing to the very tip of the head of the spine. The first paragraph of the publisher's blurb on the front flap appears to have been crossed out by the author although why is unclear. All in all a lovely signed book with striking images.
