About This Item

Grey, an avid outdoorsman, spent nearly a decade from 1921 to 929 visiting his cabin on the Mogollon Rim, usually in the fall months. Books like "Under the Tonto Rim," "Call of the Canyon" and "Tales of Lonely Trails" were written during this period and set in Arizona. In all, Grey wrote 57 novels, with 28 having Arizona themes.

"He came to this area in 1918 to hunt," says Lisa Rasley of the Rim Country Museum of Payson. "After spending some time in the Payson area getting to know the pioneer families, he decided he wanted to come back to this area on a regular basis to hunt, fish and write. He purchased land from one of the pioneer families and asked them to build him a hunting lodge."

."Harper & Brothers. Very Good Condition with only one small spot of the front cover.

****This book comes with an authentic brochure from Zane Grey's log cabin, located under the Tonto Rim which overlooked the vast panoramic view of a still primitive wilderness area. This brochure was given to the Lizarraga's during a family vacation in 1979. (See Pictures)

Reviews

On Oct 6 2020, a reader said:
When Lucy Watson takes on the job as a state welfare worker she never dreams what a change will take place in her life among the back woods men and farmers of Cedar Ridge. Her sole aim in life was to help these people live better lives and to lift them out of the poverty she "sees". But love comes her way in the form of Edd Denmeade, a slender wedge shaped man giving the impression of extraordinary strength and suppleness. To complicate matters, Lucy's sister, Clara comes and only adds to the discomfiture of the local boys. This book is classic Zane Grey as only he could pen. Originally titled, The Bee Hunter, for magazine publication it tells of the simple life, the primitive life, the settlers in a wild and rugged country faced and continued to face as they entered the 20th Century. The romance is there, the opposition and the rivalries between families; the fantastic descriptive prowess of Zane Grey displayed in all of its fullness. It's a good romantic novel to settle down with on any given evening.
