About This Item

A. & C. Black, London, 1979. Reprint. Hardcover. Good/Poor Condition. Illustrator: Diagrammatic. 1.0 kg; 260 pages, last page blank, includes appendices, index, and is illustrated by 148 black-and-white drawings, many step-by-step, and tables. Colour illustrated photographic dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is rubbed on both the top edge and the bottom edge, with a small chip missing from the bottom of the spine section, and there is a 2 inch tear with associated creasing at the top of the rear panel. Ownership inscription dated 1983 on the front end page. Otherwise in clean condition. The author shows that the pilot who wants to get the best possible performance from his aircraft must know how and why a glider flies. With the aid of the diagrams he demonstrates that the basic principles of gliding are not in fact complex, and he shows how a knowledge of the reasons for some of the seemingly wayward behaviour of a glider in the air helps a pilot achieve consistently better results. -- front fold over blurb.
