About This Item
Random House Value Publishing, 1980. Hardcover. Gould, Rupert T. : Unexplained Facts: Enigmas and Curiosities [originally titled Enigmas : Another Book of Unexplained Facts]. New York : Bell Publishing/Crown, 1980. Size is royal octavo (8vo), 9.25"/24cm h. Bound in publisher's black leatherette, gilt lettering imprinted to spine. Glossy color over black dj. Plain white endpapers. As with many reprints, numbering system is odd - 248 numbered pp, numbering starting at p 13, but preceded by only [8] pp; thus 248 numbered pp, but only 122 leaves. Nine chapters, several b&w photos/illus/maps, index. An assortment of the usual fascinating oddities - the Sphinx, prehistoric giant humanoids, the inexplicable 1893 destruction of the HMS Victoria, and so on. Good stuff. Condition notes: Pages tanned but clean, but no notes/highlighting. Spine slightly cocked but tight. Spine ends rolled. Moderate wear to dj, a single half inch tear (top front spine). We personally inspect every book we offer.
