About This Item
Grosset & Dunlap, 1938-01-01. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Vintage Hardcover with DJ, (Dust Jacket A, Format II per AXE) First Edition 1938 Grosset & Dunlap 250 pages. Very Good, in a Good DJ. Minor shelf/edge wear to green cloth boards with maroon spine titles and accents - corners have faint bumping. Purple topstain. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked. Textblock edges have a touch of foxing. Moderate shelf/edge wear, dust soiling and chipping to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. Illustrations by Pelagie Doane. Front DJ flap reads 50/50 at top and 100/150 at bottom. Lavender endpapers with line drawings. Back panel of DJ lists Nancy Drew to The Haunted Bridge published in 1937. The interior list of titles goes to this title. The rear DJ flap lists Melody Lane to The Dragon Of The Hills published in 1936. Rear inside cover has the bookstore stamp of the famous and sadly long gone Hudsons Book Shop which was a part of the Hudsons Department Store of Detroit, Michigan. This is the 11th book in a series of 38. Per AXE, this is binding variant II with good paper, lavender endpapers and glossy frontispiece. DJ is Variant A. See my photos to come. The Judy Bolton Mystery Series, written by Margaret Sutton, follows a realistic young woman who solves mysteries. Although the series was not quite as popular as Nancy Drew, Judy Bolton has been called a more complex and believable role model for girls. Judy was also unique in that halfway through the series, she married (something series book heroines rarely, if ever, did) The 38-volume series was written from 1932 and 1967 and is the longest-lasting juvenile mystery series written by an individual author. A very respectable pre-WWII First Edition in DJ. LOC SSS-10
