Captain Hunt, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, writes from New Haven in January 1863. This is a nutty article explaining "the scientific bases upon which our nationality has rested and must rest." Nationhood, he says, replicates the harmonious workings of the different components of the human body-- both have been designed by God to function as a whole. Secession thus is an assault on the laws of nature. A geological and geographical examination, conducted here, proves this.
