PA: Schiffer, 1984. This volume is the first definitive study of these charts. Information on the publishers, compilers, printing methods and projections is explained thoroughly. Coastal charts were developed by local shipmasters pre 1843. First chart in the (through act of Congress) US was published in 1845 of the Harbour in New York. At the beginning of the Civil War the entire coastline was charted. 4to (12-1/4 x 9-1/2) Nick at top of spine ow vg/fine copy - dj/rubbing at bottom and top of spine ow vg/fine. PAYPAL offered.
