Both Full Page Plates and In-Text illustrations. Wide ranging Natural History, covering the Animal and Vegetable Kingdoms, Geology and the Sidereal Universe. Frontis illustrated with a beautiful Colour Plate of Humming Birds, protected by tissue guard. Blue cloth cover with Gilt Sun & Moon Design above a Eagle & Fish on Red grounds. Similar Stellar Design on spine. Brown Endpapers. All page edges Gilt. 564 Pages, 1.2 Kilos, 9" Tall. Edge wear to cover and a closed tear, 3" long, on left side of spine. Very small hole in cloth at front (see photo). Hinges cracked and reinforced with hinge tape. Previous owner's name lightly penciled on ffep and "1891" penciled at bottom of title page, no other inscriptions. Pages and plates in good, clean condition. Despite the large number of copies pinted its scarce in the original cloth in nice condition. Binding very sound but lightly cracked to the front inner joint paper.
