Octavo (19cm.); publisher's grey decorative cloth embossed in dark blue, top edge gilt; 314pp.; photographic portrait frontispiece. Some scuffing to extremities, most notably at spine ends, corners a bit bumped, minor spine lean, later ownership signature to front pastedown and old price in black marker to front free endpaper, else Very Good, internally clean and sound.

Account of the war-time activities of Mrs. Van Metre of Clarke County, Virginia, who befriended a wounded soldier of the 1st Vermont heavy artillery with whom she was able to locate and release her husband, a Confederate prisoner-of-war.
