[World War II] Prime Minister Hubert Pierlot. Proclamation. Printed broadside. 50.5 x 52 cm. [London?]: [No publication information] 1944. Black printing on white paper. Old fold lines and small marginal tears, otherwise very good. Text repeated in French and Dutch.

Rare. OCLC lists no holdings. There are no copies at the Library of Congress or the Marshall Center, the Eisenhower Library or the National Archives online listings. The Prime Minister invokes the fight to come: "Alongside our Allies, Belgian Air, Land and Sea forces are taking part in the decisive battle for the independence of our country. Soon they will give the hand to the Fighters of the Inner Front and to all those who, braving the inhuman rigors of the occupier, have contributed to the use and destruction of his power." The date 9/44 is in the lower left corner. The liberation of Belgium began in September 1944, when the British Second Army liberated Antwerp, the US First Army liberated the region south of Brussels and Masstricht. Prime Minister Pierlot led the government in exile. Great display piece.

London: Thornton Butterworth Limited, 1927. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. This is a jacketed British first edition, first printing of the fourth volume of Churchill's monumental history of the First World War. A quarter of a century before the Second World War endowed him with lasting fame, Winston Churchill played a uniquely critical, controversial, and varied role in the “War to end all wars”. The events of these 1916-1918 volumes, of which this is Part II, include Churchill's time at the Front following his political exile and his subsequent return to the Cabinet. hough the U.S. first edition of The World Crisis preceded the British, many consider the British edition aesthetically superior, with its larger volumes and shoulder notes summarizing the subject of each page. Unfortunately, the original dust jackets are quite scarce and the smooth navy cloth of the British first editions proved quite susceptible to wear, the contents prone to spotting and toning.
