About This Item

Meadville, PA: Keystone View Company, 1897. Stereoview. Silver gelatin photograph [8 cm x 15.5 cm] on a light gray curved mount [9 cm x 18 cm]. Mount and image in near fine condition. Strong contrasts. "The Pioneer Jubilee was to commemorate the establishment of the institution of Mormonism in Utah. Brigham Young, their great leader and statesman, entered the Salt Lake Valley July 24th, 1847, leading a band of 143 men, 3 women and 2 children and settled where now stands Salt Lake City. This view shows the assemblage at the unveiling of the monument to Brigham Young and Pioneers. This monument is the gift of the grateful people of Utah to the state. It was erected by popular subscription at a cost of $35,000." - from the reverse.
