"The following true story of an experience in my life which pertains to a period when Millard Fillmore was President of the United States, would never have been written but for the urgent request of the younger members of my family, who are so deeply interested in the events which are here portrayed, that they plead with me to write this article, believing that the circumstances which occurred at that time, and which are a part of our country, will be interesting to others as they are to my family circle." - p.[3] Mintz 213. Howe H231. Flake/Draper 3867. Eberstadt 138: 260. Graff 2795. Rare.
