About This Item

Washington (DC): US Coast Survey, 1866. Both sheets (thin paper), very good or better, b&w with folds as issued. These were issued as part of the 1866 report of the Superintendent of the Coast Survey. Alexander Dallas Bache, then superintendent of the survey, was the great grandson of Benjamin Franklin. Both images measure approximately 52 x 41 cm. These sheets show specific regions within Mississippi. Sheet 1 is labeled Rodney, St. Joseph, Bruinsburg. Sheet 2 is labeled Grand Gulf, Turner's Pt., New Carthage. These are sheets 29 and 30 from the report, with printed numbering both recto and verso. Both sheets are dated 1864, although they appeared in the 1866 report. Both sheets indicate: Reconnaissance for the use of the Mississippi squadron Rear Admiral D. D. Porter.... Very Good. Map.
