Name of Capt Hogg (or Hugg or Hagg) written on right front flyleaf. Shelf wear to cloth binding. Small tear to cloth on lower front joint.

Philaelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co, 1861. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good -. First edition, 12mo, 250 (6), illustrated with 77 plates, some of them foldout. Issued by the Secretary of War, Simeon Cameron. Ownership copy of Peter M. Osborn of the famous 95th Regiment of New York State Volunteers, also known as the Warren Rifles. Signed by him with that identification in pencil and then again in ink on the flyleaf and the free rear endpaper in these latter cases listing along with the Warren Rifles the command of Col. Geo(rge) Biddle and Gen Burnside's Division, both Biddle and Burnside being famous Union commanders in the Civil War. A used unsophisticated copy, showing wear at the corners, its binding firm still. With the bookstore ticket of Lockwood 411 Broadway, lower right corner front pastedown. A Civil War troop artifact.
