About This Item
Paris, Mondière, 1623. *** "Second edition, revised and corrected". This book, published for the first time in 1618, is the one that introduced the sector into France. The mathematician Denis (or Didier) Henrion designed this sector, which was made by Daniel Chorez, a major instrument maker of the day. Simpler than Galileo's compass, which was unknown to Henrion, it had only four scales: line of lines, chords, planes and solids. Numerous engraved figures in the text and 2 plates representing the instrument. DSB 6, 271. A fine copy. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - *** "Seconde édition, revue & corrigée".
