About This Item
Swedish language.
The exhibition of contemporary French art in Finland was organized by the French Association for Artistic Action (AFAA). It run at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki from 6 to 30 March 1927. The exhibition of 114 works by 33 contemporary artists introduced the latest art trends and was of great importance for the development of modern art in Finland. By this time cubism from the extreme analytical stage with focus on form, entered its synthetic phase with emphasis on subject matter. So the show was not so cubist in orientation as the one in neighbour Stockholm in 1920. The displayed items included artworks by the such prominent French modernist painters as: Pablo Picasso and Jean Metzinger, who presented the new forms of cubism, expressionists Marcel Gromaire, Henry de Waroquier, Maurice Vlaminck, self-taught painter of cityscapes Maurice Utrillo, post-impressionists Paul Signac, Pierre Bonnard, Maximilien Luce, Albert Marquet and Charles Guerin, Dunoyer de Segonzac, who in contrast to most of his contemporaries showed highly realistic technique in his lanscapes, and many others.
The accompanying catalog includes list of works and 12 full-page artwork reproductions printed on coated fine paper.
