Paris: Editions Louvois, 1957. Limited edition, 243/1100. Hardback. 574pp. Contemporary half leather with gilt to spine. Top edge gilt. Marbled end papers. Original card covers and spine bound in. Biography of Victor-Francois de Broglie, 2nd Duc de Broglie (1718 - 1804). French aristocrat, soldier and Marshal of France. His victory over Prince Ferdinand at the Battle of Bergen (1759) won him the title of Marshal of France from King Louis XV and the title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire from Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor. he opposed the French revolution with vigour and served briefly as Louis XVI's Minister of War before fleeing France. Text in French. Some black & white illustrations. Book in very good condition. A little rubbing to corners and edges. Printed label (in the manner of a business card) to front paste down with a further one to front fly leaf. Internally clean.
