Venice: Aldine Press (Aldus), 1534. 3rd. Fine+. An early Aldine edition providing of this classical work by Valerius Maximus including an index of the all things and people mentioned. Later fine binding of green leather with a gilded Aldine publisher's mark on front and back covers, four raised bands on spine, and gilded lettering on spine. Fine turn-ins with gilded designs. All fore edges fully gilded. Ex Libris from Charles Edmund Merrill, Jr. inside front cover. Publisher's information in the back reads: Venetiis in Aedibus Haeredum Aldi, et Andreae Soceri, mense Martio, M. D. XXXIII. Pages are all very clean with only the slightest toning. There are some marginal notes, doodles, and drwaings. Valerius Maximus was one of the most copied Roman writings during the Middle Ages with some manuscripts surviving. Text in Latin and printed in Aldine italics.
