Type: Hardback Hardcover Franklin Center Edition in Near Fine Condition, with Illustrations by the Author. No Jacket as issued. A classic work of 19th century English Literature, a satirical epic of love and social adventure. This edition (1848) includes a selection of four wood engravings and all thirty-nine of the steel-engraved plates which Thackeray did for the first edition of his novel. They exemplify the whole comfortable world of Victorian upper-middle class England. There is gentle satire warmed by humor and love of life. The burgundy leatherette binding is decorated with gilt design on front, hubbed spine with gilt decorations within. The binding is very clean and unmarked. There is a gentle bump to the lower front corner and a faint scuff to the lower rear corner. All edges gilt. Internals are as new. An exquisite volume. 679 pages. 6.25 x 9.5 inches.
