About This Item

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1970. First edition. Very good in very good dust jacket.. Inscribed first printing of this English translation of a Russian Cinderella story, featuring a magical talking doll and Baba Yaga. Nonny Hogrogian, an Armenian-American from a family of artists, started her bibliographic career as a book designer for publisher Thomas Y. Crowell. She worked as an art director for several other publishers, until she earned her first Caldecott Medal for ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE MORE in 1965 - the success inspired her to become a full-time illustrator. It was a good choice: she earned another Caldecott Medal in 1972, and a Caldecott Honor in 1977. Many of her works incorporate aesthetics and stories from her Armenian heritage. Uncommon signed. 9.5'' x 7.75''. Original cloth boards. Original unclipped ($4.95) color pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated in color. [16] leaves. Inscribed by Hogrogian to title page, dated 10/15/70. Jacket and binding with areas of dampstaining, primarily to edges and rear hinge. Interior bright.
