Overall very good condition. View of ancient structures from Monte Aventino including the Pyramid of Cajo Cestio. This impressive engraving by Luigi Rossini (1790-1857) is from the Le Antichita Romane series, depicting the antiquities of Rome and environs. Carrying on the tradition of Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) and himself an architect, Rossini's prints celebrated the Classical Tradition and appealed to the well-to-do tourists on the Grand Tour and to architects and designers. The engravings powerfully evoke the glories of Ancient Rome, while also providing the modern viewer with glimpses of this magnificent city in the early 19th century. .
