London, Petter, Galpin & Co.: Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., 1880. Louis Figuier (1819-1894) abandoned research to write popular science books such as this, an interesting book, and uncommon. There is no publication date; Quercus assumes it to be circa 1880. Brown decorative cloth binding; stamped and filled in black on the front cover; black and gilt on the spine. Clean text; viii, 583 pages, with four pages of the publisher's adverts in the rear. With 473 great black-and-white illustrations. Bookplate of the illustrator J.Carl Pehl (1872-1959) on the front paste-down. The FFEP is missing; lightly rubbed at the margins. Sound and quite attractive. . First Thus. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
