Corners bumped and boards show modest edge and corner wear. Binding tight, this copy was ex-library with all pockets and indications from board endpapers removed save ink 3089 on front endpaper and remnants of a pocket to rear endpaper. A very nice copy overall with no stampings or page edge markings whatsoever. .

The Free Press Assoc, 1869. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. This old book is clean, solid and in great shape! This Original 1869 hardcover book has 191 pages including a couple of illustrated maps. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The pages are clean with no soiling or writing. There are a couple of pages that show a short (1/2 inch) closed tear with a couple of minute chips along the bottom edge. There is a bookplate on the first end paper and a stamp on the bottom of the dedication page. The title and copyright page show 1869 as the only date. The covers are clean with just a hint of edgewear. This old book looks and feels great! We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

The Vermont Brigade, a part of the Sixth Corps served under the command of Major General Phillip H. Sheridan, commander of the Army of the Shenandoah. The author was a battalion commander in the Eleventh Vermont, a regiment of the hard fighting Brigade. At just one engagement, the Battle of the Wilderness, Vermont experienced its worst day of the war; 1,000 men were killed or wounded from the 1st Vermont Brigade alone. One in eight of the casualties resulting in the battle was by this brigade, which was one of 32 brigades on the Union side. Original brown cloth with gilt Greek cross, the brigade insignia on front cover and very legible gilt spine lettering. Original moss-green coated endpapers. 3 maps, including the frontispiece.
