Hardcover in 3/4 leather and marbled boards with ribbed spine and gilt lettering and designs. viii, 184 (5) pages. Copy 158 of a total of 1,230 (one of 30 "sur papier d'Annam"). Title page states: "Frontispice d'après Paul Gauguin, et un Portrait par James McNeill Whistler"; the Avant-dire states "Une lithographie de Whistler, portrait inédit, sert de frontispice". Also includes a facsimile ms. page of Mallarmé's prose 'Ulalume', from a poem by Poe. Owner name on front blank page, scatter foxing mostly to prelims, otherwise a handsome leather-bound book with bound-in lithograph by Whistler. (fprw)
