Melbourne & Sydney, 1862. 44 steel engraved plates engraved by A. Willmore, printed on good heavy stock paper resulting in nice dark impressions of the vignettes. A couple of pages with edge repairs including the title-page, well away from the printed surface. Foxing to plates mainly to the surrounds. Original decorative gilt cloth, neatly rebacked with the spine relaid. The first series was published in 1856, with 43 plates which were nearly all by Samuel Thomas Gill. A most handsome set of plates illustrating life in Victoria in the mid-nineteenth century.. First Edit. Hardcover. Very Good.. Oblong large 4to. Book.
